Do Ministers Yapa and DeSilva know that their “former” UNP think is not appropriate in Sri Lanka?

http://www.colombopage.com/archive_091/Jul1246466253JV.html
I hope that the public is aware that it is the Ranil UNP that floated this plan for stricter media controls. The Media Minister does not run the media or the country, either does the Health Minister. Apparently, there has been a long standing plan hatched by the UNP that involves illegal sand mining to a point where we will have an environmental disaster since these areas are currently occupied by mostly Tamil and Muslim communities – again under UNP directives they will face the most loss. It will cause another spate of terrorism because the peoples will feel powerless once again and their lives will be not considered once again. I certainly can speak for Nilaweli and I will. It is not the job of politicos to part out the country as if she was a beast of burden put to slaughter – we did not win the war to have our lands destroyed. The media must operate in a manner outside of the FMM scenario created by Ranil but it must operate in a manner that shows journalistic integrity and ethics. I do not believe this eminates from the president for our proforma had much more to do with creating a dedicated media village, reference library and full fledged national university so that investigative journalism along with media responsibility, integrity and accuracy could be forwarded.
Minister Yapa has been toting his own agenda and speaking of it as if it were the government agenda for months. Worldwide we have seen these wanna-be power brokers behaving in the same fashion. After several years of witnessing this has gotten old – yes the world is watching and the world is remembering when the same tricks were played on them,
"A quality media culture should be created in the country, as there were instants where media institutions did their reporting neglecting common interests of the society in the recent past," he said.
Sri Lanka has no interest in returning to the Ranil/Chandrika fiasco for it was a murderous one. We have no interest in providing seed money for the destruction of our own lands. I certainly have every right to speak for Nihaweli and I am doing so. I ask that Wimal, Champika, Mr. Siresena, Karuna and others do so also. The UNP government under Ranil has done much harm to the country.
The Media minister has portrayed his own plans as plans of the president or of the country. It is not in collective social interest to do extensive unregulated mining of sands for the benefit of Japan, The reality is these same people who bombed Trincomalee are still around on their last legs and they have no interest environmentally or otherwise for Sri Lanka.
I understand that Mrs. Rao is assuming the post of Foreign Secretary and hope that she does so in the very near future. Sri Lanka is not the personal playground of Foreign Ministers et al that have supported LTTE as a convenient agenda item to push their own illegal policies.
Minister Yapa’s approval of cabinet memos have no bearing on whether they will gain cabinet approval – he certainly does not run the executive cabinet or the BOI.
Lanka Putra, here is the answer to your question.

"Mineral sand mining to commence in Nilaweli, Mullaitivu by Zacki Jabbar
The coastal land area from Nilaveli to Mullaithivu is to be reserved exclusively for Lanka Mineral Sands Limited(LMSL), to explore and mine heavy beach mineral sands.

Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said that land reservation for the project has been approved by the Cabinet on a proposal by Industrial Development Minister Kumara Welgama. LMSL will enter into a joint venture with Stork Handelsges of Austria to ensure a constant and uninterrupted flow of raw materials for the successful implementation of the project.

Since LMSL was established in 1960, operations were limited to mining and processing of ilmanite, rutile and zircon,he said . The government has now decided to expand the activities of LMSL by investing and upgrading the mining and processing of heavy beach minerals, which can be used for value added products such as Ferro Titanium, Titanium Slag, Titanium Sponge, Ti2 pigments and welding electrodes.

The cabinet of ministers, he said also approved a Memorandum submitted by Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Felix Perera, to permit mobile fish sales without any obstacles under current security regulations. Accordingly all government institutions and police stations will be informed of the Cabinet decision.

Yapa said that among the other proposals approved by the Cabinet was a Memorandum by Higher Education Minister Wiswa Warnapala, to construct a building complex for the Jaffna University s Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at a cost of Rs 400 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2009 and be completed within four years"
Minister Yapa has been toting his own(UNP) agenda and speaking of it as if it were the government agenda for months. Worldwide we have seen these wanna-be power bro

I see your point.

Contract issue question?

My friend created an online application that allows users to create a photo album. He is in contract negotiations to license the use of his program to a large company. This company is in the process of creating the interactive homepage of a multi- billion dollar telecommunications corp. They want to offer my friend’s program to the public and have proposed a joint venture based around profit sharing.

My friend will:
1.License his program to them for free.
2.Cover all costs associated with printing and distributing the albums.
3.Receive 40% of profits after expenses.

The Company will:
1.Provide a good home for his product (essentially providing marketing) exposure to the public
2.They will be able to offer his program as an additional feature to the web page they are creating.
2.They will receive 60% of profits but do not receive exclusive rights to the photo album program.

More:
I told my friend to ask for money up front. He is responsible for the printing and shipping and the cost associated with both. My friend rejected the idea outright, claiming that this would make him look unreasonable. Should he receive money up front for providing the product and to cover expenses associated with start up? (don’t yes me. if you disagree explain why)
excellent answer.

keep the answers coming.

He needs money up front. Here’s why.

A "multi million dollar company" can slice his idea apart to the essence, and then hire an Indian company to do their own version for pennies. Then your buddy’s out. Disposable.

I doubt your friend has an idea worth patenting (or capable of being patented), or you wouldnt even be discussing it here.

GET THE MONEY. All that promises for later stuff is bullsh–. I can personally attest that companies today hire people who are good at sniffing out insecure creative types (I used to be one) and sapping them for their creative juices until it becomes unbearable. What, do you think corporations don’t hustle people????

To your friend, boldly.

GET THE MONEY. DON’T BLOW IT ON STUPID SH–. KEEP YOUR DAY JOB. DON’T OVERINVEST YOUR TIME IN THE CORPORATION BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY, YOU ARE ONLY ***TODAY’S*** HOT IDEA. DEVOTE YOUR BEST TIME NOW TO YOUR ***NEXT*** HOT IDEA, AND KEEP YOUR FRIGGIN MOUTH SHUT ABOUT IT.

tariff and trade restrictions at Greatest colas?

answer :-
Thank you for the opportunity to present my views on tariff and trade restrictions before you. As you all know that Greatest colas is one of the World’s largest producers of aerated beverages in the world, being the industry leader and having a major presence around the world, our company has to follow a number of rules and regulations to comply with many international trade laws. As said by Jeffry Sachs the Director of Center for International Trade at Harvard University. ”Fifteen percent of world population provides all world’s technology innovation one half follows it, rest is not aware of these things”, Today when globalization has become a rapid phenomena bringing forth that paradigm shift thus knitting the world to form a global village there is no survival if cutoff from the rest of the world as no nation is self-sufficient, be it in terms of technology or resources. Trading augments this growing relationship liquidating the herculean task of meeting needs exponentially increasing availability when coming to choosing things. The whole world has become a well connected market threaded by supply chain management engaged in mutually beneficial exchanges. Tariffs and Trade restrictions play an active role in controlling the industries and also pacing the world economy.

Tariff is a tax on goods when they move from one country to another. Tariff is for the revenue purpose and protecting industries. Tariffs are two types protective and revenue tariffs. A tariff is paid for by the buyers of the foreign goods and the buyers of domestic goods who pay higher prices. The Tariff commission sets the tariff. The HTS of the United States was enacted by congress and made effective on 1 Jan 1989, replacing the former Tariff Schedules of the US. Tariff helps to raise the price of the imported product and helps the domestic products of similar nature to be sold at higher costs but they reduce exports.

The various models for acquisition and reaching Global market for global business expansion are multinational enterprise, foreign representation, licensing, franchising, joint ventures, strategic alliance, foreign direct investment, subsidiary and contract manufacturing. In a franchise agreement, the franchisee pays the franchisor for a license to use trademarks, formulas and other trade secrets. There is a freedom to adapt their products to meet the needs of the market. Contract manufacturing is when a foreign countries production of a private label good to which a domestic country attaches its trade mark. joint ventures is a mode of expansion involving two or more parties. They share technologies, market management expertise allows a foreign market where normally they would not be allowed but for the risk of breaking of agreement by any of the partner and the inflexibility involved due to vastness of spheres involved.

International trade has a lot of benefits but still many nations have their own reasons in putting restrictions on trade. A Quota is a restriction on the quality of importing goods. It actually creates a shortage which leads to the cost of the goods going up and allowing the domestic producers to increase their prices and production. A Quota on watches, might limit foreign made watches to 50000000 pairs a year. If American buy 100000000 each year, this would leave most of the market to American producers. Embargo is another trade restriction. Trade restrictions thus shift production from more effective exporting producers to less effective domestic producers. World trade is limited but industries get protected within countries. For the world economy to strengthen free trade is very essential and for the national economy to strengthen there must be enough import only then there will be export.

The WTO created on 1Jan 1995.It was to replace the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade or GATT.WTO is a forum with 153 nations as members where trade agreements are negotiated between governments. Its rules support maintain trade barriers ,as an independent entity it oversees the cross border issues. The WTO with Dispute Settlement Body, a significant forum resolves the international trade disputes between WTO members. USITC, OFAC, FTC helps to keep up the comity in the international trade front lively and healthy.

Notes

1.Valorem Tariff- is a value percentage set on goods on import.
2.Specific Tariff – is a tariff of specific amount of money that does not vary with price of goods.
3.Protective Tariff- to artificially inflate prices of imports and protect domestic industries from foreign competition.
4.Prohibitive tariff -protects local producers also raises revenue.
5.USITC- United States International Trade Commission responsible for conducting global safeguard and market disruption investigation under Trade Act of 1974.
6.OFAC- Office of Foreign Asset Control administers sanctions preventing trade.
7. FTC-Federal Trade Commission has quasi- legislative a

So, what’s your question? Tariffs definitely inhibit trade. Yes they probably are a necessary evil. Welcome to the 20Th Century. Free trade will be norm in the 21st. It’s the only way a single currency can evolve.

Any artists interested in helling to create a webcomic?

Let’s try this again shall we? The last try seemed to end in a dead end.

I’m an avid reader of webcomics, and as luck would have it, a writer. Now, after spending three years reading the things, it’s only natural that I wish to actually contribute and create one. Unfortunately, there’s a small problem. I can’t draw. At all. It’s horrible. What I’m thinking of right now is something of a fantasy-type comic (Just what the world needs, another one). Kinda. It’s…complicated, and still in planning stages (Obviously). So, In case I didn’t make myself clear….I can’t draw. Therefore, I need someone who can and is willing to do a joint venture. I’m going to stop rambling now. Details can be discussed…

I have such amazing Ctrl + V skills, don’t you think?

And now for something new! If at all possible, I’d appreciate a link to…something showing some form of your artistic abilities.

Thank ye much.
I feel foolish, I mistyped "helping" That’ll make me look good…
Thanks, I appreciate the advice, but considering I’m sitting in my dorm right now…

Wow, that sounds good, I’m an artists whom is training to do comics. I ‘m still learning, but I wouldn’t mind to have a bit of practice. I would see it I can help depending on the style of comic. :3

Your best bet would be to learn how to draw. I can give it a test drive with you though.
